Two Predictions for 2010
The Year of the Deal; the Year of the Plan

The Year of the deal

Clients who managed to follow the core advice are now seeing real opportunities emerge.  Yes, they have challenges but they are in better shape than their competitors and ths is the key.

Emerge from the recession with greater market share.  There is a lack of apetite by bankers to fund startups.  When opportunities arise they would far rather follow experienced players with a proven track record rather than unproven start ups.   Thus when market growth comes around be sure you are in shape to take the opportunities.  For those that do they will see improvements to business performance tend to greatly exceed the economic performance  of their industry once an upturn starts.

The opportunities arise because

1. Competitors are falling or are loosing the confidence of customers and suppliers.

2. They have kept their bankers confidence and can now take the opportunities of funding new agencies or taking over businesses at a fraction of the cost of 2007/8.

If you would like to examine your options or consider how you may make an informal approach to a potential supplier/competitor then consider Newmarket as a channel that can sound out the possibilities!

The Year of the Plan

Most plans from two years ago have to be revisited.  The assumptions and expectations are now radically different.  All aspects of the business have changed- customers, pricing, cost base, competitors and no doubt more changes will arise from the current environment.

With all the other challenges and uncertainities you may consider that this is a bad time to plan.

Our view is different.  2010 is the year of the plan because it will allow you to engage strongly with all stakeholders.  Identify the strategies that will transform your business performance.  Get on the front foot and control the vision of where you are going.  Gain the support of stakeholders- banks, suppliers, customers, staff and shareholders to strengthen the company whilst also facing up to the challenges.

We at Newmarket work closely with our clients in developing commercial,  focussed, action orientated and sustainable business plans. We feel the time is now right to revisit the business and personal goals and map the route to achieving them.

If you feel you are ready to take a leadership position in your industry then call us.
